Professor David Fleming Dean of School of the Built Environment
at Northumbria University. As a Chartered Real Estate Management
surveyor, David had a notable professional career in both the public
and private sectors. In the 1980¡¯s he was involved in property development
consulting throughout SE Asia and was manager of Jones Lang Wootton
(International Property Consultants) in Sydney Australia. He has also
been a Director of Colliers International. In 1989 he founded Pannon
Pacific PTY LTD, which was involved in feasibility studies for major
resort developments. He is now the Principal of the largest and highly
successful Built Environment School in the UK university sector. His
research interests lie in Facilities Management and in particular
focus upon the way in which building design impacts upon client satisfaction.
Professor Barry Gilbertson FRICS, President of the Royal Institution
of Chartered Surveyors RICS is a Partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers.
As an acknowledged expert in property insolvency, he personally specializes
in finding solutions for real estate within a business context. He
has presented at conferences in 26 countries including the 2002 World
Summit for Sustainable Development, and chaired an international panel
at the Global Cities Symposium at Harvard University, 2002. Barry
speaks and writes regularly on international valuation within a business
context. He is also a Counselor of Real Estate, an internationally
eminent group of only 1200 real estate practitioners worldwide. He
has been a Visiting Professor in the School of Built Environment at
Northumbria University since 2004.
Dr David Greenwood Associate Dean (Research and Consultancy)
of School of the Built Environment at Northumbria University.
Within the construction industry David¡¯s educational background is
somewhat unique in that his entry into the sector was via a BA (Hons)
in Classics from Cambridge University. Before becoming a working academic,
he was employed by a national construction contractor where he developed
a deep understanding of contracting and contractual relationships
that has served to inform his academic career. He has lectured and
published widely in the UK and abroad on various topics in the field
of construction management, and is a past Chairman of the Association
of Researchers in Construction Management (ARCOM). His main research
interests now relate to procurement and non-confrontational contracting.
Mr Keith Hogg Associate Dean (Development) of School of the
Built Environment at Northumbria University As a Chartered
Quantity Surveyor, Keith developed his career in East, West and Southern
Africa, and in the UK. With more than 20 years of practice related
to project development and management, his experience of the industry
is substantial.
His past experience has underpinned his academic life and supported
his research and publications. He is an active author with some recognised
industry publications to his name. He has also been closely involved
with the development of Value Management within his profession and
maintains an active interest in consultancy. He has presented at conferences
internationally and is closely involved with developing links with
China.
Dr Richard Lihua Director of China Business and Technology
Transfer at Northumbria University. Richard is Reader of
International Technology Transfer at Northumbria University. His previous
published works published by China Building Publishing House in the
1990s include Psychology in Construction Management, and Contract
Management for International Projects, which were highly praised by
academics and experts in the construction industry. His new book Technology
and Knowledge Transfer in China published by Ashgate had been listed
by Amazon as number 2 of the top 20 best selling books in terms of
the Chinese economy and Chinese knowledge. He has recently been invited
by Emerald Insight as Chief Editor to launch an International Journal
of Technology Management in China in 2006.
